Writing Guidelines for On-line Viewing

Be mindful that screens come in a variety of sizes and resolutions and that reading text on screen is more difficult than reading text on printed on paper.

  • Use plain language; short sentences.
  • Pay attention to spelling and grammatical errors - they detract from your image.
  • Avoid long paragraphs.
  • Group related information together.
  • Use brief descriptive headings.
  • Avoid excessive use of graphics that lack purpose.
  • Provide examples, analogies, and images to clarify complex ideas.
  • Personalize your language so readers can identify with your message.
  • If lengthy text is required, provide a link to the text and invite visitors to print it.
