My goal is t translate what I see into what I understand about it.  For example, the tree is anchored to the ground, the water carves its space around it.

The subjects are starting points, but also symbols for elements of the world that evoke feelings. My goal is to build a painting in the traditional sense, with color, line, and shape - each element determined by the other on the picture plane - influenced by the appearance of objects in the world, but not dependent on it.

My hope is that the painting will evokes a mood and a sense of place, but also  a relevant and unique aesthetic (a combination of forms that is pleasing for itself) based on my observations of nature.
